在排海计划启动后，东电承认，福岛第一核电站储水罐中约有66%的核污染水放射性物质含量超标，并称对于何时能够全部排完核污染水“没有任何具体计划”。

此外，8月31日，东电在排海口附近的海水中，以及其他几个地点检测到了放射性物质氚，但仍表示排海“不存在任何问题”。

据悉，东电于9月10日完成水箱内核污染水的排放，并将于11日进行用清水冲洗管道内残留核污染水的工作。第二次核污染水排放量预计为7800吨，最早将于9月末在确认核污染水中放射性物质浓度并检查设备后开始。
